Lights, Camera... Catwalk.

Our models sure did stomp their way down that runway last night, phew. Then energy is still lingering with me. The music, the people, the aesthetic in general was exactly what we were going for. All of our production students were there bright and early yesterday to bring you that amazing show. Here a couple teaser photos of what was going on yesterday and last night.

And... ACTION... this is our 5 o'clock showing and as you can see it was a full house.

We have many many many more pictures to come. I would just like to give a special thanks to all of the students who made this possible. We all did an amazing job guys.

Communicate to our demographic and community. We encourage you to visit a number of our locations and talk with our team members for direction and insight. Submissions will range from expressive logo redesigns to unique and distinct artwork that uses our cherry as an accent. The criteria are minimal and meant to promote free thinking and creativity.

The winning design will be put into production at all five Cherry Street Coffee House locations. The artist will also receive formal recognition on our website and community pages, and receive a $100.00 Cherry Street cash card. Internship opportunities are also available!

Fashion Show Producer

I have always loved Fashion, even as a small child all my attention was directed towards clothing, shopping and fashion magazines.I attended College with the intention of a Business and Marketing degree while working at Nordstrom part-time.

After a few years of retail I trained to be a Freelance Fashion Show Coordinator for Nordstrom. I went on to work as a Booking Agent at a Seattle Modeling Agency for 3 years, before returning to Nordstrom with the position of Northwest Fashion Coordinator in Seattle. Wendy produced the largest shows in the company. Working with with many designers including Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Badgley Mischka and also producing the Seattle Art Museum Designer show for 10 years, who's lineup included Chanel, YSL, Dior, Lacroix, Marc Jacobs to name a few, along with many other American, French and Italian designers.

After years of travel and producing shows she retired from Nordstrom to raise her 2 children while continuing to Produce shows independantly in Seattle. She started Wendy Wood Productions. She has produced many projects, which include the Fashion First Shows, Seattle only Green Fashion Week, The Seattle Sounders show and the Arts Institute Fashion shows.

Meet Our Judges....

Ali Basye

Ali Basye is the editor of Seattle Bride magazine, Be. Magazine, and the author of The Long and Short of It: The Madcap History of the Skirt (HarperCollins, 2007). She writes about fashion, travel and style for magazines such as Los Angeles, Lexus, Sunset, Virtuoso Life and Seattle, and reports on West Coast style for Textile View magazine, widely regarded as the Bible of the fashion industry.

Who are the Judges?

A Fashion show cannot be a success without judges to determine whom the top designers are. The students have been working hard on not only seeking five judges for the show, but also defining what the judges will be judging and the potential awards that designers could win. It’s been a scramble to get in contact with industry people, but the students have been in contact with a lot of influential Seattleites. To name a few joining us at the judges table, we have James Zachodni from D-List Magazine, Blayne Walsh from Season 5 Project Runway, actress/model Josie Bisset, Gisela Manning, owner of Raggomyffin’s Boutique, Laura Cassidy, Editor of Seattle Metropolitan Magazine, Ali Basye, Editor of Seattle Bride Magazine, Justin Mckibben, President of Kibbn Designer Children’s store, and Andrew Burkhardt, Booking agent for Seattle Model’s Guild. We are excited to have such influential people to be judging our students garments!

Beyond finding judges students have to determine what criteria the judges will be looking for. After meeting with one of the schools textile professors the students have been able to narrow down the awards that will be given to the winning students. While the models walk the 60-foot runway our judges will be looking for the most creative ensemble, the next project runway star, best high fashion garment, most marketable, and best couture garment. The students are staying busy with the show just around the corner. Stay tuned next week to find out if the students will be able to pull off the greatest fashion show of the year. PEACE, LOVE, & FASHION: The Art Institute of Seattle presents the 11th annual fashion show of student design at The Showbox SODO at 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2009.

Seattle, WA – March 12, 2009 – This spring, The Art Institute of Seattle presents its 11th annual fashion show “Peace, Love, & Fashion.” The annual runway exhibition created and produced by students from the Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing programs.

The Art Institute of Seattle has created an eclectic showcase of modern style and groovy design in celebration of the psychedelic sixties. Every aspect of the production – from lighting and set design, to marketing and promotion, guest services, public relations and of course, the runway collections – have been created from concept to execution by students at the college. Joan Kelly, Executive Producer of Seattle’s trendy Fashion First show, and recognized by Seattle Magazine as one of Seattle’s “Top 25 Most Influential Women” in 2007, is back for her third year as the show’s Executive Producer, and brings her wealth of talent and experience to this year’s showcase.

“Peace, Love, & Fashion is an opportunity for students to experience the electric energy of a major runway production,” says Kelly. “Not only does the show provide them with a great opportunity to develop their design and production skills, but it also allows them a fabulous opportunity to be a part of one of Seattle’s premier fashion events.”

An exciting feature of this year’s show is the appearance by Project Runway Season 5 star Blayne Walsh. Blayne is a graduate of the Fashion Design program at The Art Institute of Seattle (2005), and part of an all-star team of fashion industry insiders charged with judging the collections in this year’s show. Joining Blayne at the judges table is actress/model Josie Bisset, with Gisela Manning, Owner of Raggomyffins’s Boutique, Laura Cassidy, Editor of Seattle Metropolitan Magazine, Ali Basye, Editor of Seattle Bride Magazine, Justin McKibben, President of Kibbn Designer Children’s Store, James Zachodni, Editor of D-List Magazine, and Andrew Burkhardt, Booking Agent for Seattle Model’s Guild.

A matinee show at 5:00 PM is available FREE to high-school students with a valid ID, and tickets for both the matinee and the 8:00 PM main show are available for $20.00 in advance through Ticketmaster at 206.628.0888, or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets may also be purchased at the door as available for $25.00. The event also features a raffle benefitting the EDMC Foundation and scholarship opportunities for fashion students at The Art Institute of Seattle.

It's a dificult process that must be done, and only the best of the best will be able to wear our garments!! Also within our slideshow were giving you a sneak preview of a few pieces that may make the cut into our Peace, Love, & Fashion show 2009.

Week One: Behind the SEAMS!!!

In the weeks to come, check our blog-site for pictures, news, and updates about all the behind-the-SEAMS action at Peace, Love, & Fashion 2009.

COMING SOON: Watch our short video on the story behind the overwhelming processes of assigning front of the house and back of the house jobs for students. For starters, front of the house started to work on making judges packets, marketing ideas, finding sponsors, selling of tickets, starting a seating chart with a lists of guests, and making appointments to meet with industry professionals.

Students in charge of behind the house had to hit the ground running for time is running out for designers to submit their garments. As garments were submitted they were graded based on their design and given positive feedback.

TUNE IN NEXT WEEK FOR :

Models, models, models! Back of the house is holding a casting call for all models! Students started the grueling process of recruiting potential models to walk our ~~40 foot~~65 foot runway the day of the fashion show.
